These two pieces for reed quintet, connected by main motif in the oboe part, are colorful sketches entitled "Void" and "Bursts." "Void" is much like an expressionist fantasy that uses multiphonics in the clarinet and alto saxophone parts. The second movement is a "Burst" of highly colorful energy and gives every instrument in the ensemble to show off their virtuosity in fast sextuplets.
